Texas Snax Take on H-E-B True Texas BBQ Sweet TX Heat Rub

Not every barbecue fan wants pure pepper on everything. Sometimes you want the ribs to taste a little like candy and a little like trouble. Sweet TX Heat lives right there.

People look for it as H-E-B Sweet TX Heat rub, True Texas BBQ sweet heat rub, or H-E-B sweet and spicy rub. It's the sweeter sibling of the H-E-B True Texas BBQ Salt & Pepper Blend: where that one is built for beef, this one is pointed at chicken, pork and turkey.

The honest part: sweet rubs and high heat don't always get along. Sugar can scorch over a hot direct flame, so this shines on the smoker, in the oven, or on the cooler side of the grill. Give pork ribs or chicken thighs a good coat, cook them low and slow, and watch the color build. If the "heat" part worries you, start with a lighter hand and add more next time. Thanksgiving smoked turkey is a fun place to try it.
