H-E-B True Texas BBQ Salt & Pepper Blend is a coarse salt and black pepper seasoning in a 10 oz shaker jar. The label says it's used to season the True Texas BBQ beef, so it's a good fit for brisket, ribs and steaks.

Texas Snax Take on H-E-B True Texas BBQ Salt & Pepper Blend

Ask a Central Texas pitmaster for their secret and a lot of them will shrug and say "salt and pepper." This jar is that philosophy, bottled.

Barbecue folks call this style a Dalmatian rub, for the black-and-white look on the meat. You'll also see it searched as H-E-B salt and pepper rub, H-E-B True Texas BBQ seasoning, or H-E-B brisket salt and pepper. If you've eaten from the True Texas BBQ counters at H-E-B, this is the style of seasoning behind that beef.

Honest notes. Simple doesn't mean foolproof. A coarse blend sticks best to a lightly moist surface, and many pitmasters use a thin binder like mustard, so apply it evenly instead of in clumps. It's mostly salt by nature, so go easy on thin cuts like skirt steak. And it won't add sweetness or color the way a paprika rub does; the bark comes from smoke and time. For brisket, beef ribs and a good ribeye, it's hard to beat.
