H-E-B Texas Originals Blackened Seasoning is a spice blend made with sea salt, in a 4.5 oz (127 g) shaker jar. Use it to coat fish, chicken or shrimp before searing in a hot skillet.

Texas Snax Take on H-E-B Blackened Seasoning

Blackening is a Cajun technique with one rule: get the skillet hotter than feels reasonable. This shaker covers the spice side so you can focus on not setting off the smoke alarm.

It's part of H-E-B's Texas Originals line and gets searched as H-E-B blackened seasoning, H-E-B blackening spice or H-E-B Cajun seasoning for fish. Redfish, catfish, shrimp and chicken all take to it, and we like it on corn on the cob, too.

Honest notes. Blackening makes smoke, a lot of it, so open a window and run the vent fan, or take the cast iron out to the grill. Brush the fish or chicken with melted butter or oil first so the spice sticks. Taste before adding more salt. For a full Gulf Coast plate, serve it with rice and a squeeze of lemon.
