Texas Monthly conducts serious journalism. This time, Dan Solomon was lucky enough to get a plum gig. Solomon, who sometimes writes about food, taste tested H-E-B novelty potato chips. However, crucial journalism sometimes presents risk to the journalist. Solomon went there so we don't have to without some guidance.
We won't delay the suspense. His riskiest venture was trying the Vanilla Milkshake Wavy Potato Chips. Solomon wondered if this strange flavor pairing was meant to spark outrage; controversary isn't always bad news -- particularly during the Internet Age. He went on to report:
I opened the bag out of a commitment to journalism, not an expectation of discovering a new favorite chip... I think—I think these are good? Ever dip your fries into a Frosty at Wendy’s? It’s kind of like that.
While they may not be his new favorite type of potato chip, he actually liked them. Count us intrigued. He also seems to like the Pepperoni Pizza Rolls Ridged Potato Chips, Ridged Loaded Baked Potato Potato Chips, and Sweet Thai Chile Kettle Cooked Waffle Cut Potato Chips offerings. Note that the Sweet Thai Chile kind are found at H-E-B's gourmet store, Central Market. While he didn't seem disgusted by the other four chips that he taste tested, they didn't really get his recommendation either. However, Solomon is just one person, and if there's one thing Texans know, each individual is unique to themselves. So, don't just take his word for it.
